Penny Tree is an independent project that helps shoppers find Dollar Tree penny items — clearance products that ring up for just $0.01 — along with other deeply discounted, under-50¢ finds.

Dollar Tree quietly marks discontinued products down to a single cent in its registers before pulling them from shelves. These "penny items" are never advertised and don't show their real price online, so they're notoriously hard to track down. We built Penny Tree to make that information searchable, current, and tied to real store locations — so you can walk in knowing what to look for.

How we gather and check our information

We combine three sources, and we're upfront about each:

Dollar Tree's public catalog. We read Dollar Tree's own publicly available product data to build and refresh the item database automatically.
Community confirmations. Shoppers mark when they've actually found an item, and at which store, so the list reflects real-world results — not just what a catalog says.
Curated penny lists. We incorporate widely-circulated, dated penny lists from the shopping community, recording where each came from.

Our honest promise about accuracy. Penny pricing is decided at the register and varies by store, region, and day — so a listing here is a strong lead, not a guarantee. We always encourage you to verify an item on the in-store scanner before counting on the price. We'd rather tell you this plainly than overpromise.

Who's behind it

Penny Tree is built and maintained independently by Ned Walsch, a deal-hunter who got tired of digging through scattered Facebook groups and screenshots to find penny items. It's a small, self-funded project — not a company, and not affiliated with Dollar Tree in any way.

How the site is funded

Penny Tree is free to use. To cover hosting and development, the site is supported by advertising and may earn affiliate commissions when you buy through some outbound links, at no extra cost to you. Advertising and affiliate relationships never influence which items we list or how we rank them — the data is driven by prices and community reports, full stop. You can also support the project directly if you'd like.

Penny Tree is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Dollar Tree, Inc. "Dollar Tree" is a trademark of its respective owner and is used here only to describe the stores and products we write about.
