🛒 In the aisle? How to check this ▾

1. Scan the barcode in the Dollar General app — it reads pOpshelf items, and it's the only way to see the true price before the register.
2. A penny at pOpshelf is register-only: it is never orderable online, and the same item at a Dollar General is usually still full price.
3. Cheap-but-not-penny finds (10-50 cents) sometimes CAN be added to a store pickup order — worth trying in the app.
4. The register is the final word, and a cashier can decline a penny sale. Be polite and don't push.

Rule of thumb: a penny is a lucky bonus, not the plan. Full pOpshelf guide →

Penny status varies by store — always verify in the Dollar General app or at the register. How →

⚠️ A penny is often triggered when a product's packaging or formula changes — the maker gives the new version a new item number and the old one gets discontinued. So the item on the shelf can look identical but actually be the new (full-price) version. Match the exact item number, not just the look — small differences in packaging, size, or wording are the tell.

Pricing & info come from pOpshelf's distribution network, not individual stores. DCs supply the stores, so items are usually there — but expect some inconsistency unless a shopper has confirmed it.
