$0.01

⏳ Limited to some stores — not a penny everywhere. At the stores that flip later it was still $13.50 — not a penny there yet. It has read that way for 50 days now. A Dollar General rollout takes about a week, so this is very unlikely to still be spreading — it looks like an item only some stores carry or are clearing. Worth checking your own store before the trip. 🔒 See which stores flip first — unlocks at 700 XP + 10 finds → Checked Oct 21

A barcode identifies the item, not its price — the register decides that. If it does not ring at $0.01, please just put it back.

🛒 In the aisle? How to check this ▾

Scan the barcode in the Dollar General app (or enter the UPC) BEFORE you get in line — that's the only way to see the true price.
If the app shows $0.01, it's a live penny at THIS store (penny status is store-specific).
Look next to the barcode ON THE PACKAGE for a manufacturer's date like "02 / 2024" — a year or more in the past means old stock, which is what pennies. A date in the FUTURE is just a best-by; it means nothing here.
Check the neighbours: dead stock usually arrives a whole shelf at a time, so one old date is a reason to scan what's beside it.
Expect friction: many cashiers won't sell a penny, and it's never guaranteed. Be polite; don't argue.
No luck? Tap "couldn't find it" so the community knows it's dried up here.

Rule of thumb: a penny is a lucky bonus, not the plan. Full Dollar General guide →

“First carried by Dollar General” = when this item first appeared in Dollar General’s catalog — not how long it has been a penny. Penny status changes at the register and varies by store.

⚠️ No longer in Dollar General’s online catalog. Dollar General has dropped this item from its website — usually a sign it's been discontinued or sold through online. That can make it much harder to find in store, but not impossible: clearance and penny items often linger on shelves (or in a back room) for a while after they leave the catalog, and stock varies a lot from store to store. No recent shopper finds yet — if you spot it in a store, tap “I found it” so others know it's still around. We keep its page up and scannable so you can still check it at the register, but it ranks below items that are still in the catalog — recent finds bump it back up.

Penny status varies by store — always verify with the Dollar General app. How →

⚠️ A penny is often triggered when a product's packaging or formula changes — the maker gives the new version a new item number and the old one gets discontinued. So the item on the shelf can look identical but actually be the new (full-price) version. Match the exact item number, not just the look — small differences in packaging, size, or wording are the tell.

Pricing & info come from Dollar General's distribution network, not individual stores. DCs supply the stores, so items are usually there — but expect some inconsistency unless a shopper has confirmed it.
